The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game
Wade Miley, y’all!
The Cincinnati Reds lefty was once again brilliant on Friday, this time against his former club in Milwaukee. And when I say ‘brilliant,’ I mean brilliant, as the best hitting pitcher on the Reds roster socked a double, turned it into a triple, and scored a run. Hell, he even managed 4 dang plate appearances something that’s pretty much unheard of for a starting pitcher in National League play these days.
That he added 8.0 IP of scoreless ball was merely the icing on the cake for the slugger. Watch yoself, Shohei Ohtani. You’ve officially got company.
Honorable Mentions are due to: Jesse Winker, who doubled in a run and added a walk; and Tucker Barnhart, who justified his selection against a lefty starter with a bit ribbie double.
Key Plays
- Tucker socked a big ribbie double off lefty Eric Lauer in the Top of the 4th, an oppo-shot that gave the Reds a 1-0 lead.
- Miley and Winker combined to double that lead in the Top of the 7th, with both doubles coming off reliever Miguel Sanchez. From there, Miley and Heath Hembree combined to slam the door, and the Reds won a vital 2-0 game.

Other Notes
- This game was broadcast on YouTube. I’m not a huge fan of their broadcasts, but they broadcast games between relevant ballclubs, and I’ll take the Reds being relevant over not 12 days a week.
- Tomorrow’s contest between these two will be a 7:15 PM ET start, earlier than the previous two, so plan accordingly. Vlad Gutierrez will toe the rubber for the Reds opposite Freddy Peralta, who has been a damn dynamo for the Brewers so far this year. Leggoooo!
