In a night that the Reds really needed a starter to go long to give the bullpen a rest, Wade Miley gave them exactly what they needed. He had some moments where he had to battle and gave up an early homerun to Pete Alonso but it was just another stellar start for Miley. Though, the bum did strikeout twice and did not get a single hit. Shame.

Honorable Mention: Joey Votto who went 2 for 3 with a HR and a walk, Jonathan India who went 1 for 3 with a dinger, walk, and two runs scored, Aristides Aqunio who went 2 for 3 with a dinger, a walk, and a TOOTBLAN,

Key Plays

• Pete Alonso greeted Wade Miley rudely in the top of the first. He hit a dinger, but he’s kind of famous for that. Mets lead, 1-0.
• The Mets started Robert “Beef” Stock, a former pitcher in the Reds minor leagues. He also was greeted rudely as Jonathan India continued all the cool shit he does with a leadoff dinger. It was to dead center field and had to be 430+ feet or something like that. It was crushed. Votto walked and Aquino singled but they were stranded. Tie game.
• In the bottom of the third, we were shown who bangs. JOEY VOTTO BANGS! Then we were shown who punishes. ARISTIDES AQUINO PUNISHES! That’s back to back solo dongs. Reds lead, 3-1.
• Wade Miley really settled down and the Reds threatened a few more times but the score stayed the same. However, Miley got himself into trouble in the seventh by letting two reach base with no outs in the top of the seventh. Miley struck out Nimmo and then David Bell came out to get him at 104 pitches. Honestly, I’d have let him try and get the last two but he really was gutting it out with the last batter. Brad Brach came into the game and got a groundball. He made the play but Votto dropped the throw at first allowing Villar to score. It was a good throw. Joey just missed it. Brach then instantly got another groundball back to him and a double play was turned, but errors will haunt. Reds lead, 3-2.
• In the bottom of the seventh, India led off with a walk and Jesse Winker grounded out pushing India to second. Joey Votto singled but India had to hold at third. Aquino then walked to load the bases. Tyler Stephenson was brought in to hit for Naquin and hit a ball deep to right field for a sacrifice fly. However, Aqunio for some reason tried to tag from first and got caught in a run down to end the threat. But, the Reds scored and lead 4-2.
• Heath Hembree was brought in to pitch the eights. He struck out the leadoff man and then gave up a single to James McCann. He then struck out Michael Conforto but gave up a double to Luis Guillorme. McCann wouldn’t have scored but Winker had trouble with the ball in the corner. He’s lucky it wasn’t scored an error. Villar worked the count to 3-2 but Hembree got him to ground out weakly to first. They cut the game closer but the Reds still lead 4-3.
• Garrett took the mound in the 9th in search of the save. Garrett walked the leadoff hitter on four pitches but came back to strike out Brandon Nimmo. Garrett then faced Pete Alonso for the first time in his career. I’ll be honest, I was scared. Garrett showed some freaking swag and put him away with no trouble at all. Garrett the got a weak pop out from McNeill to close the door and it was really nice to see. REDS WIN, 4-3!

Other Notes

• The Mets starter, Robert Stock, was hurt after the first inning. This is a game the Reds have to win. You just can’t run this much time against another teams gassed bullpen and not win these games. Thank God, the Reds did just that.
