The Reds finally got a really good start out of Luis Castillo last night, and now they are poised to take the series today vs. the hated Cardinals.
They’ll face Johan Oviedo today, a person that I’m pretty certain I’ve never heard of. He pitches for the Cardinals, of course, and hasn’t done so particularly well. Over five games and four starts, across 20 innings, Oviedo has a 5.40 ERA with a 6.03 FIP and 1.600 WHIP. That’s... not great. His strikeout rate is up from 2020, but so is his walk rate, a lot (6.8 BB/9 vs 3.6).
Which all aligns with him no-hitting the Reds today.
Tyler Mahle will take the mound for the Reds. He’s basically had one bad start this year, when he allowed seven earned runs against the Giants two starts ago. He’s not allowed a run in 10.1 innings since. He’ll try to keep that up today, obviously.
Go Reds.
