The start of a big ol’ midweek series in GABP.

GABP is still buzzing from yesterday’s thumping of the Philadelphia Phillies on the back of Nick Castellanos’ 7-ribbie game. His grand slam hopefully opened the offensive floodgates for the upcoming week, too, as the Cincinnati Reds play host to a pair of formidable foes in the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs this homestand.

Today, it’s the dawn of perhaps the biggest Reds/Padres series in...I dunno, decades?

News

  • Sonny Gray is going to return to the Reds and make Friday’s start against the Chicago Cubs. He’s already listed as the scheduled starter on Reds.com even though we’ll need to wait for an official roster move. The ripple effect on the entire pitching staff is what I’ll be watching in earnest, though, as simply sending Tony Santillan back to AAA while the bullpen is held together by duct tape with Lucas Sims and Tejay Antone out seems questionable, at best, though would perhaps be the best for preserving SP depth for down the road. Decisions, decisions...
  • Castellanos and Jesse Winker are currently on-pace to start the All Star Game for the NL, but they need your continued support via votes to hold on to those spots, as the Reds relayed on Twitter:

Roster Moves

(Roster Moves like Jagger, Roster Moves like Jagger, Roster Moo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooves like Jagger...)

  • None of note today.
