Will the streak be unbroken?

The Cincinnati Reds lost their 5th consecutive game last night, and did so while also using just about every last arm in their bullpen into the wee hours of the morning. That’ll make Wade Miley’s task that much more difficult today, less than a dozen hours after Monday’s game wrapped 7-5 in favor of the Minnesota Twins.

News

  • Byron Buxton exited early last night after being hit on the hand by a Tyler Mahle pitch. Turns out the star Twins CF fractured his finger, unfortunately, the latest in an unbearable string of injuries to the incredibly talented outfielder. Damn.
  • Reds GM Nick Krall gave lip service to the idea of improving the Reds from outside the organization yesterday, giving the stock-issue ‘we’re trying to get healthy first’ response to the concept, as MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon relayed. Once again, this club has all the makings of a racehorse billed as a closer who rounds the final turn and forgets to shift gears in the stretch run. Maybe next decade, folks.

Roster Moves

  • The Reds welcomed back some much, much-needed bullpen help in the form of Tejay Antone, who was activated off the 10-day IL this morning. Scott Heineman was optioned to AAA in a corresponding move, while Jeff Hoffman was sent out to AAA to begin a rehab assignment.
