The Reds roll into Cleveland after a 3-2 homestand. The Ohio Cup is within reach, just need to win 2 of 3 this weekend.
This will be the first series without Joey Votto, who hit the DL today after fracturing his thumb on Wednesday. On the bright side, Shogo Akiyama is back in action, and in the starting lineup today.
Wade Miley is on the bump for Cincinnati. Miley’s been the most consistent piece in the Reds’ rotation, and if the Reds can get 6 innings out of him today, that’d be a huge win. Zach Plesac is on the other side, who had a good outing his last time out but has struggled with inconsistency this year so far. If the Reds can get to him early, they could capitalize in a big way.
We knew there’d be a lineup shakeup with Joey Votto out, and that’s definitely the case. As expected, Mike Moustakas moves over to 1B for the time being, but Eugenio Suarez moving back to 3B wasn’t a move that was obvious. Kyle Farmer takes the open infield spot at SS, and with the DH spot in play, Shogo makes his return to LF with Jesse Winker not playing the field.
Go Reds.
