Friday

Louisville Bats 0, Columbus Clippers 10

Woof. The starting pitching wasn’t terrible. “O” Riley O’Brien gave up three earned runs over four innings pitched (2 H, 4 BB, 5 K). The bullpen, outside of Brad “Breath” Brach, was awful. Brach struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief to put this one, thankfully, away. If you were looking for offense don’t check out the box score because there was none by the good guys. Though, good guy Mark Payton did single and walk twice from the leadoff position. What a fantastic development for him.

Chattanooga Lookouts 10, Rocket City Trash Pandas 12

Randy “Did Not” Wynne gave up sixed earned runs in 3.2 innings so let’s just skip that. Nick “The Redeemer” Howard however was fan-freaking-tastic. Nasty Nick tossed 2.1 innings of relief while only giving up one hit and striking out four. If you remember, the Reds originally drafted him as a closer in the 1st round. Stay tuned for more interesting developments here at Farmers Only. The rest of the bullpen was a musical chairs of suck. There were lots of hits. Most notable was Mark Kolozsvary who went 2 for 3 with a dinger, two RBI, two walks, and three runs scored. Leonardo Rivas schnocked two singles, a double, and a triple in five at bats, and Wilson “Cherry” Garcia went 3 for 6 with a triple and a RBI himself. Alejo “Gesundheit” Lopez walked twice, doubled all in a 2 for 4 night with a RBI.

Game 1: Daytona Tortugas 1, Palm Beach Cardinals 3 (F/7)

Evan “Lenny” Kravetz gave up an earned run over 3.1 innings (2 H, 4 BB, 4 K), but Tanner “Hide” Cooper pitched 1.1 scoreless of relief with a strikeout. The offense only had four total baserunners.

Game 2: Daytona Tortugas 5, Palm Beach Cardinals 2 (F/7)

I think a reliever started and it did not go well. The Tortugas were down early by two runs because Jason “Fart” Parker gave up two runs and allowed a bunch of people to get on base in a variety of ways, mostly walks. However, Jake “Gonzo” Gozzo (2 IP, 4 K), Carson “Mudd” Rudd (3 IP, 4 K), and Vincent Timpanelli “Hall” (1 IP, 1 K) all combined to shut down the little WLB’s. Again, the offense wasn’t great but was able to take advantage of four Cardinal errors. Rece “Melon” Hinds smoked a dinger, his second of the year.

Dayton Dragons 9, Great Lake Loons 5

Graham “Cracker” Ashcroft struck out six in 3.2 innings but also gave up two hits, two earned runs, and three walks. Tyler “Hollywood” Garbee (1.1 IP, 4 K), Eddy “Dumbass” Demurias (1.2 IP, 2 K), and Braxton “Ruby” Roxby (1.1 IP, 3 K) all combined to nail down the victory will stellar relief. Brian “Death” Rey hit a grand slam, and Michael “The Talent” Siani went 2 for 3 with a walk and two stolen bases.

Saturday

Louisville Bats 3, Columbus Clippers 6

The Bats likely didn’t intend to start the season 1-4, but I don’t usually intend to eat the whole pizza. Bo “Knows” Takahashi took the start and was ho hum. He gave up two earned runs over 4.1 innings (4 H, 4 BB, 4 K). Shane “I” Carle struck out two in a clean inning of relief. Nicky “Well Done” Delmonico knocked two doubles to bring in two runners, Alfredo “Sauce” Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with a walk, Scott “Pygophilia” Heineman went 2 for 4 with a walk and a stolen base, and Cheslor “Chicken” Cuthbert walked three times.

Chattanooga Lookouts 6, Rocket City Trash Pandas 4

Connor “Toe” Curlis only gave up an earned run over six innings of good pitching (1 H, 3 BB, 2 K). Julio “Gulio” Pinto struck out four in 1.2 rock solid innings of relief. TJ Hopkins went 3 for 4 with a triple and a RBI, Alejo “Aloha” Lopez went 2 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored, Jose “I Say” Garcia went 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, and two RBI.

Daytona Tortugas 18, Palm Beach Cardinals 8

Well, shit, the Tortugas made up for the lack of offense on Friday by bringing the wood on Saturday. First, Case “Western” Williams couldn’t find the strike zone. He walked five over three innings while giving up two earned runs, three total. Ricky “Bobby” Karcher struck out four over 1.2 scoreless, and Nick “Mmm Bop” Hanson struck out two in his scoreless inning. Because of the offensive onslaught, I’ll only talk about the coolest of things. Dingers were hit by Ivan Johnson, Danny Latingua, Allan Cerda, and Leo McGarry’s grandson, Alex McGarry. There were like thirteen hits overall and ton of base runners. Check out the box score if you’re still interested. I’m tired.

Dayton Dragons 6, Great Lake Loons 5

Ricky Salinas got trounced in his start so we’ll skip it. However, Spencer Stockton came in to save the day. Stockton pitched 4.1 innings and struck out three. Brian “Sun” Rey hit two bombs, and Siani again got on base three times. This time it was a single and two walks.

Sunday

The Bats did not play due to monsoon like conditions.

Chattanooga Lookouts 7, Rocket City Trash Pandas 1

Chattanooga was able to avoid the rain that plagued much of the eastern portion of the United States which was good news for Reiver “Life Giver” Sanmartin. You may remember Sanmartin as being the second piece of the heralded Sonny Gray trade. Sanmartin pitched five shutout innings while only giving up a single hit, two walks, and striking out four. Wes “Craven” Robertson and Ryan Olson both pitched scoreless innings of relief. Narciso “Babbling” Crook went 2 for 4 with his second dinger of the year. Jose Garcia was 1 for 3 with a walk, double, RBI, and two runs scored as he continues his torrid start to the season.

Daytona Tortugas 7, Palm Beach Cardinals 3

James Proctor was given the start and responded well. He allowed only one earned run over four innings (4 H, 2 BB, 4 K). Pedro Garcia struck out four in three innings of relief. Alex “Larry” McGarry hit another dinger and Rece “Peces” Hinds knocked his third of the year as well. Danny Latingua went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored, and Michael “Triage” Triana went 2 for 3 with a double, walk, and a run scored.

Dayton Dragons 12, Great Lake Loons 1

Dayton played in Michigan so they avoided the bad weather. Lyon “Pride” Richardson continues to deliver. He pitched five shutout innings on four hits, one walk, while striking out six. Jacques “Machu” Pucheu struck out two in two scoreless innings of relief, and Francis “Cheese” Peguero struck out two in his inning of scoreless relief. Quin Cotton and Bren “And Stimpy” Spillane both hit dingers. Brian Rey knocked in three with a double.
