Let’s go streaking!
After a gutsy comeback win last night, the Reds can take their second straight series tonight as they take on the Pirates. We’ll watch a couple of journeymen pitchers who made their names elsewhere face off, as the Reds use a 5th starter despite Luis Castillo being on 4 days rest.
Wade Miley will get the start for Cincinnati, his first of the season. After coming up with Arizona, Miley has made stops in Boston, Seattle, Baltimore, Milwaukee, and Houston, before arriving in Cincinnati on a 3-year deal last season. Injury issues plagued his already shortened 2020 season, however, and only pitched 14 1⁄3 innings all year. He’s another guy who has been expected to largely be the long-relief specialist out of the bullpen this year, but injury issues have pushed him into the rotation to start the year. They could really use some good innings out of him, and he could use a good outing to keep in the conversation for starting role.
Trevor Cahill will start for the Pirates, on a very similar trajectory. The former Athletic, Diamondback, Brave, Cub, Padre, A (again), Angel, and Giant will make his Pirates debut, hoping to provide a solid veteran innings-eater to a Pirates rotation that lost a lot of talent from last season. Cahill didn’t face the Reds last year, but has actually faced him mostly as a reliever in his career, in his time with Chicago.
The Reds lineup looks an awful lot like it did yesterday, which is a good sign. Miley’s the only difference, with 1-8 being the same. Go Reds.
