The off day after Opening Day is a major bummer. It’s like they give you just a little taste before yanking it away again. I was so hard up for baseball yesterday I watched Orioles.
But, now we’re back again. Hopefully the Reds fare a little better this time. Tyler Mahle is taking the bump for the Reds in this one, one of only two original members of the rotation (from where they’d want it to be, anyway). Mahle appeared to make the leap last season, in what should’ve been his third full Major League season. It was only 47.2 innings pitched, but they were pretty stellar; a 138 ERA+, 1.154 WHIP, and 11.3 K/9.
The Reds really need him to carry that performance over into this season, especially early in the season while they’re missing major pieces of the pitching staff.
The Reds will face off against 455 year old Adam Wainwright.
