In the grand scheme of what’s going on in this country this afternoon and evening, this game tonight feels just about as meaningless as a sports game arguably *should* be. Sports shouldn’t be the story. If this game goes ahead as planned, let’s keep it in perspective. Let’s keep the people in Minneapolis in our thoughts tonight, and let’s support all of the people who have been waiting for this day for a long long time.
Tonight’s distraction here will take place on a chilly but beautiful evening at Great American Ball Park. Luis Castillo takes the ball for Cincinnati, in desperate need for a good outing. He’s gotten off to a particularly slow start this season for him, after an offseason where he had plenty of suitors. He’s had trouble finding the strike zone, and really hasn’t had success trying to keep those outside pitches on the black.
Zac Gallen pitches for Arizona today. He’s been the Diamondbacks’ best pitcher since they basically stole him from the bumbling Marlins. He also sort of shares a name with old friend Zach Buchanan, who now covers the Diamondbacks, the local team for where he now lives.
Nick Castellanos being out is the story for the Reds’ offense, but let’s hope it doesn’t matter.
