Don’t look now, but the Reds have broken off 3 in a row. They’ll get a chance to make it 5 in a 3 day span with another doubleheader today.
The big story for Game 1 will be the return of Joey Votto, who sat out in all three of those wins. He’s batting leadoff today, so let’s hope that a couple of days off do him some good.
A tantalizing pitching matchup in this first game, too. Trevor Bauer gets the ball in another 7-inning doubleheader, his third so far. He’s thrown shutouts in both of his first two. He’ll face Yu Darvish, who along with Bauer has been one of the best pitchers in the NL so far this year. Alec Mills and Tejay Antone will get the ball for the second game, Antone having impressed greatly in the chances he’s been given so far.
Also of note is that Aristides Aquino will be the 26th man for today’s doubleheader. Mark Payton is starting in LF for the first game, but it seems silly for Aquino not to get a few ABs today with the Reds short an outfielder.
Go Reds!
