Wade Miley’s initial foray into pitching as a member of the Cincinnati Reds didn’t exactly go smoothly. Fortunately for all parties involved, it was merely a) a spring training exhibition and b) he’s got plenty more chances to show he’s a cromulent 5th starter.
That climb begins again today, as Miley gets the start for the Reds on the road against the Oakland A’s, who’ll be sending lefty Sean Manaea to the mound in opposition.
Today’s Reds lineup will feature the likes of Shogo Akiyama, Jesse Winker, and Derek Dietrich, while Jose Garcia starts again at shortstop while Freddy Galvis is sidelined with a quad strain. And as the handy dandy travel guide tweeted out by The Athletic’s C. Trent Rosecrans reveals, the pitchers available to back Miley today is a who’s who of vets on on minor league deals trying to make the club.
Go Reds. Go, go, go.
