Tonight the Reds will welcome in the Diamondbacks from Arizona to Great American Ball Park for a three game weekend set. It’s the first time the team has taken on the NL West foe this season, which seems odd, since there’s only about three weeks of season left. They’ll turn around and do it again in Phoenix next weekend.

The Diamondbacks will send Robbie Ray to the mound tonight. He’s having much of the same successes as he had last season, his 3.97 ERA just a few ticks higher than his 2018 ERA of 3.93, however he’s already pitched 30 more innings this season.

He’s cut down on his walk by one per nine inning from 2018, which is a good thing, because 5.1 BB/9 is... pretty high. He strikes out a good amount of batters (he actually has one more strike out on the year than Luis Castillo).

He’s a good pitcher, basically.

The Reds will turn Tyler Mahle, who was great last weekend in his first start back in the rotation since coming off the IL. He struck out five Cardinals without issuing a walk, and allowed only two earned in 6+ innings.

Let’s hope Mahle can keep right on keeping on.
