Mets at Reds, Game 2 - Preview and Lineups

The Reds try to get back on track.

Friday night’s series opener between the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds went in a rather predictable fashion.

Luis Castillo pitched well. Jacob deGrom pitched just a little bit better. Pete Alonso hit a freaking mammoth dinger, Jeff McNeil was impossible to retire, and the butt-end of the Cincinnati Reds bullpen largely imploded. Such are storylines we’ve seen play out time and time again this season.

Hopefully, Saturday will feature a different outcome. The Reds will send out Anthony DeSclafani, who has been absolutely nails over his last half-dozen starts. He’ll face off against Mets flamethrower Zack Wheeler, he of the blazing fastball and occasionaly propensity to serve up meatballs to players the caliber of, say, Eugenio Suarez.

One can hope, at least.

As for the lineup, the Reds are somewhat decimated today, as The Athletic’s C. Trent Rosecrans reported earlier that they sent home a full handful of guys who are fighting flu-like symptoms. Lovely.

First pitch is set for 4:10 PM ET. Go Reds.
