Trevor Bauer is starting his ninth game as a Cincinnati Red this evening and he really needs to clean it up. He has managed just two better-than-decent starts since the trade, and he got embarrassed in three of them. To put it succinctly, he has been bad. His ERA in Red is 8.23.
I suggest you run out and pick up some more beers before this one just in case.
Now, he is clearly not this bad. Of course, I’ve been wrong about a lot of things in my life, so I wouldn’t trust my judgement on that.
I suppose we are fortunate that he gets to work through his issues against the Mariners’ lineup. They aren’t the worst team in baseball, but they are the sixth-worst. And they are coming off a 21-1 suplexxing from the Astros. (BTW if you have the opportunity, I suggest watching as much Astros baseball as possible right now. They are so much fun and have won their past two games by a combined score of 36-1. Remember when the Reds swept them?)
Justus Sheffield will go to the mound for the Ms for his fifth start of the season. He came to Seattle this past winter in the James Paxton trade and, being a left-handed rookie, is very likely to throw a complete-game three-hitter on 86 pitches tonight.
The Astros are playing the A’s again tonight and your old buddy Tanner Roark is on the mound. That game is at 8pm.
This one starts at 10:10pm, so put on a pot of coffee.
