The Reds and Mike Trouts will do battle one last time tonight, with the Reds looking to send the Trouts back to Anaheim with a little two-game mini-sweep, as they did to the Reds back in late June.
Left handed pitching Jose Suarez will take the mound for the Angels tonight. He’s pitched 41.1 innings for the Angels this season across nine starts, with a 5.66 ERA. He’s allowed at least two earned runs in every start this season, none lasting longer than 5.2 innings pitched (all the way back on June 15).
He’s pitched to better results down in AAA this season, with a 3.62 ERA in the PCL, but he’s actually striking out more and walking less on a per nine innings pitched basis in the Major Leagues. He’s given up a ton of home runs, however (2.4 HR/9). Not exactly the greatest trend coming into his first start in Great American Ball Park.
The Reds will answer with Anthony DeSclafani, who’s been pretty, pretty, pretty good this summer. Disco’s got a 3.17 ERA over his last 54 innings (10 starts since the beginning of June), with 60 Ks to only 13 BBs. Not too shabby for a “fifth starter”, I’d say.
Given the lefty starter, the Reds have stacked their lineup to the brim with right handed batters. Suarez has given up a .321/.398/.578 slash against righties this season at the Major League level.
