The new-look Cincinnati Reds took to Atlanta on Thursday for their first post-deadline game, and in a blink were down 3-0 in a game they’d ultimately lose. Of course, that loss came after only 6 innings of play thanks to some torrential rain, and it was a bit odd that they chose to bang the thing outright and not at least attempt to finish play.
Oh, and Adam Duvall homered against his old club for good measure. Great, grand, groovy.
Alex Wood will take the mound for Cincinnati on Friday in the second game of the series, and in doing so will be taking on the team that originally drafted him. Hey, maybe he’ll have some of that same thump your old team karma that Duvall put on display last night! It’ll be the second start of Wood’s Reds career, on the heels of his 4.2 inning, 2 ER debut last week.
Meanwhile, Atlanta will turn to Kevin Gausman, who has been an abject disaster for them in his first full season with the club. After opening the season with 7 brilliant, scoreless innings against the hapless Miami Marlins on April 5th, he’s pitched to an ugly 6.59 ERA in his last 14 starts, a stretch that also spanned a month-long IL stint. His most recent outing saw him allow 3 dingers and 6 ER to the Philadelphia Phillies, so hopefully the Reds can continue that trend.
First pitch is set again for 5:20 PM ET.
