The Cincinnati Reds won 3 consecutive series for the first time all season as they headed into Wednesday’s trade deadline, which obviously was enough to help the one-time trend of dipping confidence in the team’s direction to get a bit of a recovery.

Of course, the deadline saw fan favorites and sometime offensive juggernauts Yasiel Puig and Scooter Gennett traded away in separate deals, and considering it’s been the offense to blame for the team’s sub .500 record already this year, it will be interesting to see how that graph looks in a week. That the team also chose to cash-in top prospect Taylor Trammell in a deal that brought in pitcher Trevor Bauer - who’s only under team control for 1 year after 2019 - will also be a major consideration.

The Reds are in quite the interesting spot now, as they were prior to Wednesday’s flurry of moves. They have clear eyes on being a legitimate contender in 2020 while not yet completely being out of it in 2019, but it appears they prioritized 2020 with their moves this week anyway.
