The post-All Star break is not going as designed.
After taking a 7-0 lead in last nights game, the Reds gagged the whole thing away by allowing 10 runs in the 6th inning, and then somehow ended up only losing by one run, because of course they did.
That one run loss was their 20th of the season, of course, though it was a different kind of one run loss than we’re used to.
Still, the Reds have lost six of the eight games they’ve played since the break. That puts them a solid nine games back in the division and, well, this whole thing is starting to feel very bleak.
Anyway, if the Reds have any hope of salvaging this particular series, they have to start today. It helps that Luis Castillo is on the mound.
Miles Mikolas will go for the Cardinals this evening. His season hasn’t panned out the way that the Cardinals probably hoped after re-upping his contract this offseason, but he is fresh off a complete game shutout of the Pirates his last time out.
Go Reds.
