Welcome to the home stretch!
The Reds start the second half of the season on a 6-game roadie, where they have an important series against the Cubs next week. Before that, they take on the Rockies at Coors Field.
The Reds have All-Star Sonny Gray on the mound today, fresh off of appearing only on the red carpet in this week’s festivities. His last start was by far his best of the season, striking out 12 Brewers en route to a 3-0 win in 8 innings of work. In the 7 seasons he’s been in the big leagues, he’s never faced the Rockies.
Meanwhile, the Rockies will throw out a Gray of their own, in Jon Gray. Gray faced the Reds twice last season and won both times, and has largely pitched well at home this year, to the tune of a 3.35 ERA at Coors Field in 2019.
The only All-Star Break roster news is that Wandy Peralta will rejoin the team after his DL stint, and rehab in Louisville. Nice to have another lefty back in the mix. Josh VanMeter was sent back to AAA on Wednesday.
