I don’t care who’s pitching.
I don’t care who the Cincinnati Reds are playing.
There is baseball tonight in the Queen City, and Nick Senzel is going to be playing it.
The reality is, of course, that the San Francisco Giants are in town for a rare Friday-Monday four game series at GABP, and it’s a prime chance for the Reds to do some dunking on another last-place team. It’s also, presumably, a chance for this morose offense to finally get rolling, though beginning the series with the best hitter on the team to date on the bench (Eugenio Suarez) sure is one way to do that.
If Nick Senzel can just muster 4 dingers on his own, perhaps that won’t be an issue.
It’ll also be quite the reunion in GABP tonight, as Vanderbilt University products Sonny Gray and Tyler Beede will be the starting pitchers for their respective teams, all while former Vandy pitching coach Derek Johnson sits in the good-guys dugout. Considering the Giants (66) are the only team in baseball with a worse team wRC+ than the Reds (69), perhaps it’ll be the kind of pitchers’ duel that will make Johnson proud.
First pitch is set for 7:10 PM ET.
