Let’s play two today!
The Reds take on the Pirates in a day/night doubleheader today. This extra game was put on the schedule when, as per tradition, Red Reporter’s Game 2 plans were rained out. In turn, the Reds will actually use that game as Game 2 today, the only difference being there won’t be a table of drunk RRs at the local watering hole. Well, there might be, but that would be purely a coincidence.
The Reds have their two best starters going today in Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray. Castillo had a rough outing his last time out, but will look to bounce back today. Gray is coming off of his first win of the year, despite pitching well for the most part.
From a personnel standpoint, Cody Reed has been announced as the 26th man for this doubleheader, which will give the Reds an extra bullpen arm today, and also allows them to send Reed back down I-71 at the end of the day, which the Reds have done an awful lot this year.
On the Pirates’ side, the Reds will face Nick Kingham in Game 1. He faced the Reds twice earlier this year, but both times were in relief. They’ll face Mitch Keller in the nightcap, who will be making his MLB debut.
First pitch for the first game is set for 1:10 PM ET. Game 2 is scheduled for 7:10 ET.
