Farmers Only Weekend Harvest: Alfredo Rodriguez propels the Lookouts

The shortstop had a big weekend to help the Lookouts get the weekend sweep.

Friday, April 26

Louisville Bats 14, Norfolk Tides 16

The Bats lost an absolute barn-burner on Friday, falling 16-14 against Norfolk. The pitching, obviously, wasn’t great. Lucas Sims “City” lasted only 1.1 innings and gave up 8 runs (6 earened) on 5 hits with 3 walks and a strikeout. Matt Bowman pitched 2 scoreless innings. The offense was good, though! Josh “Parking” VanMeter went nuts, going 5 for 6 with 2 homers and 3 RBI. Courtney Hawkins was 2 for 5 with a 2-run blast, Christian Colon “Blow” went 3 for 6 and drove in a pair, and Nick “Call Him Up” Senzel reached base 3 times, going 1 for 4 with 2 walks and a run scored.

Chattanooga Lookouts 7, Biloxi Shuckers 6

Chattanooga scored a run in the 9th to beat Biloxi in walk-off fashion on Friday. Jordan “Michael Magic” Johnson started and wasn’t great, lasting only 1.2 innings and giving up 2 runs on 2 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Ryan “Purple Haze” Hendrix struck out 5 and gave up an unearned run in 1.2 innings of relief. Brantley “Ring my” Bell and Alfredo “Little Pasta” Rodriguez each went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI. Narciso Crook went 3 for 5 with a triple and a RBI and TJ “Land of the” Friedl went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Daytona Tortugas 3, Bradenton Marauders 4

Ryan Lillie started for Daytona on Friday and wasn’t great, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Aneurys “Targaryen” struck out 2 in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Bruce “BRRUUUUUUUUUCE” Yari was 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored and Jonathan “BaseBollywood” India was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, and 1 RBI.

Dayton Dragons 5, Great Lakes Loons 7

Dayton started the weekend off on the wrong foot, losing 7-5 on Friday. Ricky Salinas started and went 4 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Mauriel “Mary Bats” Bautista went 2 for 5 and drove in a run. Jay Schuyler “Sisters” went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI and Jonathan Willems went 1 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI.

Saturday, April 27

Louisville Bats 5, Norfolk Tides 4

Louisville won in walk-off fashion on Saturday, defeating Norfolk 5-4 in 10 innings. Keury “Nooma Nooma” Mella started and was solid, going 5 innings and giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Cody Reed came in and was even better, striking out 5 and walking none in 3 scoreless innings. Josh VanMeter continued his solid weekend, going 0 for 2 but walking thrice and scoring twice. Nick Longhi also walked 3 times. Brian “Beef” O’Grady went 2 for 4 with a walk and a RBI and Juan “Gatorade” Graterol went 1 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.

Chattanooga Lookouts 6, Biloxi Shuckers 4

Rob “Horton Hears a” Wooten started on Saturday for the Lookouts and was really good, going 6 innings and giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 8. Ibandel “Dinger” Isabel did what he does and went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. Alfredo Rodrguez went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored and Jose “Ask” Siri went 2 for 3 with a double and 1 RBI.

Daytona Tortugas 1, Bradenton Marauders 4

Daytona continued to struggle offensively in a 4-1 loss on Saturday. Packy “Wasn’t Wacky” Naughton struggled in his start, going 4 innings and allowing 4 runs on 9 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Wendolyn Bautista was solid in relief, striking out 4 in 3 shutout innings. Bruce Yari went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk and Hendrik “Oh, My Darling” Clementina went 1 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI.

Dayton Dragons 4, Great Lakes Loons 9

Saturday wasn’t any better for Dayton as they lost 9-4. Jhon “O-H H-O” De Jesus started and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts in 3 innings of work. Connor Bennett struck out 2 in an inning of relief. Jonathan Willems went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Sunday, April 28

Louisville Bats 1, Norfolk Tides 7

The first inning was not kind to Louisville, as they gave up 6 runs early in a 7-1 loss. Vladimir “Bad Glutes” Gutierrez gave up all 6 of those runs in only .2 innings while allowing 3 hits and 5 walks. Jimmy “Drinks to” Herget struck out 3 and walked 1 in 4 scoreless innings of relief. There wasn’t much going for the offense either. Nick “Hit Ball” Longhi smacked a solo dinger for the only Louisville run of the game.

Chattanooga Lookouts 6, Biloxi Shuckers 5

Chattanooga got the weekend sweep with a 6-5 victory over Biloxi on Sunday. Tejay Antone got the start and went 6 innings, giving up 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. TJ Friedl “Dee” had a game, going 2 for 3 with a 2-run dinger and 4 RBI. Tyler “Bat Flip” Stephenson went 2 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI. Victor Payano struck out 2 in 2 scoreless innings of relief.

Daytona Tortugas 6, Bradenton Marauders 10

A big ol’ oof from Daytona this weekend, as they lost their 3rd straight on Sunday. Austin “Animal Farm” Orewiler lasted only 3 innings in his start, giving up 7 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Randy Ventura went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 1 RBI, Yonathan “Soft J” Mendoza went 1 for 5 and drove in 2, and Lorenzo Cedroia went 2 for 4 and drove in a run.

Up Next: Daytona is off tonight.

Dayton Dragons 4, Great Lakes Loons 14

The weekend didn’t go any better for Dayton than it did for Daytona, ending with a 14-4 loss on Sunday. James Marinan gave up 5 runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work. Juan “Gone” Martinez went 2 for 4 with a dinger and 3 RBI and Pabel Manzanero went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
