Cincinnati Reds at Atlanta Braves - Exhibition Game 1

Not exactly Cactus League, not exactly real, but baseball nonetheless.

The Cincinnati Reds abandoned their spring training confines of Goodyear, Arizona and headed east over the weekend. I’m picturing Joey Votto driving a ‘97 Jeep Cherokee with laundry baskets full of old records and sweaty sneakers stacked to the ceiling in the back, the weight of it making it ride a little too low, with Sonny Gray riding shotgun, slapping his hand on the roof as they jam to some Creedence tapes all night long.

Round about Missouri, though, they turned right, heading south to Atlanta for a pair of exhibition games against the Braves before the regular season officially starts. That’s assuming they haven’t all gotten stuck in the hellscape that is I-75/85 Atlanta. If only the midnight train to Georgia actually connected to MARTA in a convenient public transportation gem, but I digress...

Anyway, baseball. Tanner Roark will be on the mound for the Reds to start, but he won’t be hitting - instead, the Reds will be using the DH, which is just about the only thing that makes this look any different than what the Opening Day (and everyday, sans Scooter Gennett and Nick Senzel) lineup will likely be, for the most part.

As the Reds mentioned in that there tweet, FS-Ohio will have this one on the tele, and it will also be watchable on MLB.tv as the free game of the day.

First pitch is set for 7:20 PM ET.

Go Reds! They’re the favorite team of many people who live within a 90 mile radius of the tri-state area!
