Spring Training Game Six: Brewers at Reds

Prospect Tony Santillan gets his first Cactus League start.

We got to see a glimpse into the future of the Cincinnati Reds yesterday when top prospect Nick Senzel flew around CF and had a 3 for 3 day at the plate - with a ribbie. Senzel obviously profiles as the biggest piece of the next great Reds lineup, and is someone we’ve waited anxiously to see perform on the biggest stage now for months.

Another player who could well be vital to the near future of these Reds is pitcher Tony Santillan, whose impressive 2018 season between A+ Daytona and AA Pensacola saw him rocket all the way up to #69 on Baseball America’s list of the Top 100 overall prospects in the game entering 2019. Nice! Santillan’s heavy fastball can sniff 100 mph, and that has helped him rack up 365 Ks in his 366 career MiLB innings.

Odds are Santillan will start the year with AAA Louisville as an anchor in their rotation, but on Thursday he’ll take the mound as the Reds starter in Cactus League play at home in Goodyear against the Milwaukee Brewers. And as you can see below, he’ll be flanked by a rock-solid lineup that will likely be quite similar to the ones regularly rolled out by the Reds once the regular season begins - minus the DH, of course.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 PM ET. Unfortunately, there won’t be a TV feed for it anywhere, but you’ll still be able to follow via radio. #LineupTweet below comes courtesy of MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon.
