From Ken Rosenthal:
#Reds in agreement with free-agent infielder Derek Dietrich on a minor-league contract, pending a physical. Deal includes invitation to major-league spring training and will be worth $2M+ on the major-league side.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) February 18, 2019
Dietrich has been a free-agent after spending his entire 6-year career with the Marlins up to this point. He hit .265/.330/.421 with 16 homers in 551 plate appearances last season, and defensively, saw time in LF, RF, 1B, 2B, and 3B.
Most importantly. he adds another left-handed bench bat to go with whichever of Jesse Winker and Scott Schebler aren’t playing every day. Infield depth seems to have been an issue for the Reds coming into camp, and it’s great to see them addressing that as games start this weekend.
