Weather has wrought havoc on this particular series between the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres, with today’s game being the second straight contest to be preemptively rescheduled in an attempt to dodge the deluge. On top of that, yesterday’s contest got banged early, with the Reds being deemed the victors after just 7 innings of work.
They’ll try to get Sunday’s game all the way finished, and Tyler Mahle will surely be hoping to pitch all the way through it, too. Mahle is making his return to the rotation after taking the spot previously occupied by Homer Bailey, which is a damn refreshing sentence to finally be able to type. Mahle, of course, was electric for a time in the rotation earlier this season before a rough spot earned him a bus trip back to AAA Louisville, and it’ll be interesting to see if he’s fixed the problems he ran into mid-summer.
The Padres will counter with starter Jacob Nix. First pitch is, for now, set for 4:10 PM ET.
