Reds at Pirates, Game Two - Preview and Lineups

Cody Reed gets another chance to start.

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds followed up their series victory against the St. Louis Cardinals with a dud in the opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates, falling 5-1 in a game that was just about as so-so as it could be. On Tuesday, they’ll try to punch back in their quest to finish anything-but-dead-last in the NL Central for the n-th consecutive year, and will do so with lefty Cody Reed taking the mound.

Reed, of course, had seen his starting prospect status left for dead by many, but has so far responded with a 3.26 ERA in his limited 2018 outings in the big leagues, and allowed just a lone earned run in 4.2 IP in his previous outing - the first start he’s had this year since back on April 9th. Hopefully, it was a corner-turn for him, as he still has perhaps the nastiest left-handed stuff of anyone on the Cincinnati roster at the moment.

The Pirates will counter with Joe Musgrove, who has pitched to a solid 102 ERA+ in 97.0 IP since coming to Pittsburgh from Houston as part of the Gerrit Cole trade last winter.

First pitch is set for 7:05 PM ET.
