This will be the last, and final series in Pittsburgh of the year for the Cincinnati Reds, despite the fact that they’ll host the Pirates in GABP at the end of the month for their final series of the 2018 calendar. At this point, though, it seems that both teams are now out of the running for the playoffs, as a recent slide has left Pittsburgh a full 5 games under the .500 mark, 10 games back in the NL Wild Card race and 15.5 games back in the NL Central.
The Reds, as you’re well aware, are even further back in the standings.
That makes the fact that we’re still going to see Matt Harvey get a start for the Reds a bit onerous, and perhaps increasingly telling that the Cincinnati front office would like him tied down to a new contract beyond this season. That, though, is a story we’ll kick down the road for a bit longer, and simply hope that he can find a way to pitch well enough today to get the team a victory and to make that concept a bit less of a fuzzy one for 2019 and beyond.
The Pirates will counter with starter Trevor Williams.
First pitch in this Labor Day matinee is set for 1:35 PM ET.
