The Brandon Larson Honorary Star of the Night
Alfredo Rodriguez - 3 for 4, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Alfredo Rodriguez isn’t exactly known for his hitting prowess. The Reds have been criticized ever since they signed him for putting so much faith in him being able to figure it out at the plate. He hasn’t done much in that area so far, but he had a great night at the plate last night, so he deserves a trophy. He went 3 for 4, smacked a 2-run dinger, and drove in 4 on the night. Nice work, Alfredo.
Louisville Bats 6, Pawtucket Red Sox 5
It was a pitcher’s duel in Louisville right up until the 8th inning, when both teams exploded for 2 runs apiece. But the Bats were able to come back and claim a 6-5 victory. Cody Reed had another solid start last night, throwing 6 innings and allowing 1 run while scattering 8 hits, walking 1, and striking out 7. Nick “Bong Rip” Longhi went 1 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI and Brian “Beef” O’Grady went 1 for 4 with a 2-run dinger. Jimmy “Drinks to” Herget threw a scoreless inning, as did Kevin Quackenbush, who struck out 2.
TBD starts tonight for Louisville at 7:00 PM ET.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos 7, Mobile BayBears 6
Pensacola survived a back-and-forth contest with Mobile on Wednesday night. Seth Varner got the start and went 6 innings, allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Zack Weiss struck out 1 in his 2 scoreless innings of work and Alex “Danger” Powers struck out 2 and earned the save. TJ “You’ve got a” Friedl “In Me” went 2 for 4 with a double, a walk, and a solo bomb. Gavin “As I walk through” LaValley had himself a game, going 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, and 4 RBI and Shed “To Bed” Long reached base 3 times, going 1 for 2 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
Vladimir Gutierrez takes the mound tonight at 6:35 PM CT.
Daytona Tortugas 10, Dunedin Blue Jays 3
Daytona erupted for 5 runs in the bottom of the first and cruised to a 10-3 win on Wednesday. Scott Moss started and went 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Jeremy “Evel” Kivel struck out 1 in 1.1 innings out of the bullpen. Alfredo “Wait, what?” Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with a 2-run dinger and 4 RBI. Ty Stephenson was the better of the Steve brothers on the day, going 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI while Stuart “Sweet” Farchild “Of Mine” went 1 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI. Oh, and Ibandel Isabel somehow collected 4 hits without hitting a dinger. Quite the evening for the offense.
Daytona plays tonight at 7:05 PM ET.
Dayton Dragons 4, Lansing Lugnuts 5
Austin “1984” Orewiler started for Dayton and lasted 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Hendrik Clementina went 2 for 4 and blasted his 16th dong of the year. Mac Sceroler gets the start tonight at 7:05 PM ET.
Billings finished up their All-Star break last night. They will take on Ogden tonight at 7:05 PM MT.
Greeneville Reds 7, Bluefield Blue Jays 12
It was not a good night for Greeneville pitching on Wednesday. Ricky “Oof” Karcher started and went 2.1 innings, giving up 10 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. He also gave up 3 dingers. Ouch. Connor Bennett had a solid night out of the bullpen, striking out 3 in 2 scoreless innings. Greeneville also made six errors on the evening. Yikes. Nate Scantlin had a night at the plate, reaching base 4 times and going 2 for 3 with 2 triples, 2 walks, and 3 RBI. Jonathan Willems did as he does and went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI.
Josiah Gray starts tonight for Greeneville at 7:00 PM ET.
