The Reds are finishing up a 9-game road trip where things haven’t exactly gone well. After getting swept in a 2-gamer by Detroit and losing 3 of 4 to Washington, they will try and salvage something with a series victory over the lowly Mets. To help with that task, the Reds have called upon Robert Stephenson to make his 2018 debut. The last time we saw Bob Steve, he put together a pretty solid second half, compiling a 3.30 ERA over 11 starts in the latter part of the 2017 season.
Bob has been even better as of late, though. In Triple-A Louisville this season, he has had his best season in recent memory and has been nearly lights-out over the last month or so. He put together a 1.33 ERA in the month of July and topped that off with a 13 strikeout performance in his most recent outing. Here’s to hoping he can continue that run.
Stephenson’s opponent is definitely no slouch. Jacob deGrom has put together his best season as a big-leaguer in 2018. He has a career-best ERA (1.85), ERA+ (204), and FIP (2.27) this season and is a serious candidate for the Cy Young Award. He has not faced off against the Reds this season.
