Brandon Larson Honorary Star Of The Night
Rylan Thomas - 2 for 3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Who is this guy? I don’t know, I haven’t been paying attention that much to Rookie League. If you weren’t named Mike Siani or Jonathan India you lost my attention. Not anymore. I’ve noticed Rylan Thomas. Why? Look at this slash line. .240/.447/.573. He’s hit 7 home runs. He’s walked 27 times. He’s only struck out 17 times! What?!? He’s also a 26th round pick out of UCF which is probably why. No knock on him, but I don’t usually pay attention to later picks out of college. But, that batting line is super pretty and I want to keep watching. Keep doing good things, funny named guy.
Louisville Bats 3, Buffalo Bison 4
Jose “Get Low” Lopez showed off a stat line that doesn’t look bad until you see the earned runs. He allowed 4 earned runs over 5.1 innings on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. Brandon “Cabbage” Finnegan pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, Domingo “Ate Your Baby” Tapia pitched 1 scoreless, and Jimmy “Drink To” Herget struck out 2 in a scoreless inning of his own. Brian “Beef” O’Grady went 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored from the lead off spot, and Chadwick “American Idiot” Tromp went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk. The loss broke a 9 game winning streak.
The Bats will play at 7:00 PM ET.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos 4, Chattanooga Lookouts 1
I like this team. This team is fun. Daniel “Do” Wright was freaking nails. He allowed just a solitary earned run over 8 innings on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Alex “International Man Of Mystery” Powers struck out 1 in a scoreless 9th to pick up his 12th save. Jose “Nosey” Siri bashed his 9th dinger of the year. It was a solo shot. Aristides “Philosopher Titties” Aquino went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
TBD is on the mound at 6:15 PM CT.
Daytona Tortugas 8, Fort Myers Miracle 9
I like this team too but they lost. Tejay “Ouija Board” Antone was good. He allowed 1 earned run over 5.2 innings on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Jeremy “Ultimate Fighter” Kivel struck out 3 in 1.1 scoreless, two runs scored in Carlos “Booger Picker” Diaz’s 1.1 innings but they weren’t his fault and he struck out 2, and Ty “Poppin” Boyles pitched a scoreless inning. Malik “Shepherd” Collymore hit a 2-run dinger and had 3 RBI overall. Randy “Are You?” Rentura went 2 for 6 with 2 runs scored, and Bruce “Almighty” Yari went 2 for 4 with a walk, RBI, and a run scored.
Daytona plays Friday at 7:05 PM ET.
Dayton Dragons 2, Fort Wayne Tin Caps 1
We had a scare in this one. Fresh off the day that Hunter Greene was named the 18th best prospect in all of baseballs by MLB.com, he also had a shortened game. However, it wasn’t like he wasn’t just overpowering everyone. He was dominant in his two short innings. “John Deere” Greene struck out four while only walking 1 in 2 scoreless innings. He also broke a stadium record for fastest fastball ever recorded at 102 MPH. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. Granted, he was clocked at 103 in the futures game, but it’s still amazing to see that from a starter. Everyone had to hold their collective breaths because he was pulled from the game after only 30 pitches. Reports indicate that Greene wasn’t feeling great so they decided to replace him. That’s a lot better than what we were probably thinking at first. Knock on some wood, you animals. Wendolyn “Bandolin” Bautista went 4 shutout innings while only giving up 2 hits and striking out 3, Brian “Deer” Hunter struck out 2 in an inning, and Ryan “Rubba” Nutof pitched a scoreless inning as well. Lorenzo “Pain” Cedrola went 2 for 3, Jeter “Churchill” Downs went 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Alejo “Aloha” Lopez went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
Packy Naughton takes the mound at 7:00 PM ET.
Billings Mustangs 4, Missoula Osprey 1
Jared “Wise Old” Solomon pitched a good one. He threw 5.1 shutout innnings on 2 hits, 3 walks, while striking out 7. Ryan “RIP” Dunne struck out 3 in 1.2 innings. Mariel “Maury” Bautista hit a fracking grand slam and that’s all the needed.
Billings plays at 7:05 PM MT.
Greeneville Reds 8, Princeton Rays 10
Ricky “Sticky” Karcher gave up 4 earned over 4 innings. He allowed 5 hits, 4 walks, and 1 strikeout. Cory “Mein Kampf” Heitler struck out 1 in 1.1 scoreless. Rylan “Big Guylan” Thomas went 2 for 3 with 2 walks, a dinger, 3 RBI, and 2 walks. That’s a good night to write home about even if you do have a weird name. Hunter Oliver “Twist” also knocked a 2-run homer of his own. Mike “Shittin” Siani continued to tear apart the old guys by going 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored, and Claudio “Does Cardio” Finol went 3 for 3 with a run scored and a walk.
