Matt Harvey will try to give the Cincinnati Reds something they’ve not yet seen in the first two games of the season’s second half - some rock solid starting pitching. The Reds have dropped the first pair in the series to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and have done so largely in a thumped-fashion, as the collective 18-3 score would suggest.
There’s also the added subplot at play here - that this might well be Harvey’s final start as a Cincinnati Red. The July 31st trade deadline is only 9 days away, and with Harvey set to be a free agent at season’s end, he’s easily the most likely Red to be moved within the next week-ish. He could get another start, of course, but as trade deadlines go, we just won’t know until it happens. Either way, I’d suggest you enjoy what you see today while you can.
Ivan Nova will counter for the Bucs. Let’s hope the Cincinnati bats finally show back up again today against him.
First pitch is set for 1:10 PM ET.
