The Brandon Larson Honorary Star of the Night

Victor Payano - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K; 1 for 1, 2B, 3 RBI

Victor Payano isn’t talked about much in the prospect circles, as he’s a 25 year-old relief pitcher still kicking around in Double-A. However, he did a little bit of everything for the Blue Wahoos last night, so that earns him the Larson for the evening. He made his second start of the season and threw three shutout innings, allowing only 1 hit while striking out 3. He also got the offense going with a 3-RBI double for the first runs of the game. Have a trophy, Victor.

Louisville Bats 3, Columbus Clippers 5

Louisville tried the whole “Start with a reliever, then relieve him with a starter” deal tonight. Domingo “Ate Your Baby” Tapia started and threw 2 shutout innings while striking out 1. Justin Nicolino then came in and threw 4.2 innings and gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Jimmy “drinks to remember, I drink to” Herget threw 1.2 shutout innings of relief while striking out 2. “Stone Cold” Steve Selsky was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Dilson “Pickles” Herrera was 1 for 4 and drove in a run.

Up Next: Jose Lopez starts tonight at 7:05 PM ET.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 5, Jackson Generals 4

Victor Payano got the start for the Wahoos last night and went 3 innings and gave up no runs on a hit with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. He also was 1 for 1 with a 3-RBI double. Have a game. Alex “Danger” Powers got his 7th save with a shutout inning of relief. Aristides “Horse Shit” Aquino went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a run driven in. Brian “Beef” O’Grady was 1 for 2 with a walk and a RBI.

Pensacola is off tomorrow.

Daytona Tortugas 3, Clearwater Threshers 4

Daytona played the first of two extra inning games last night on the farm. Tony “Santigold” Santillan got the start and pitched well. He went 5 innings and gave up 1 run on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6. Joe Kuhnel pitched well in relief, but gave up the losing run, which was unearned. He threw 3 innings and struck out 3 batters. Ty “Yawn” Stephenson was 2 for 5 with a solo dinger and 2 RBI. Stuart “Sweet” Fairchild “Of Mine” was 2 for 4 and “Macho Man” Randy Ventura was 1 for 4 with a walk and 1 RBI.

Up Next: TBD starts for Daytona today at 10:35 am ET.

Dayton Dragons 4, Great Lakes Loons 3

Dayton had the second extra inning game last night, but this one was a 4-3 win. Andrew “Jones Brian” Jordan got the start and was solid for Dayton, throwing 6 innings and giving up 1 run on 5 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. John “Sandstorm” Sansone was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. Andy “Sluggo” Sugilio reached base 4 times, going 2 for 2 with 2 walks and Malik Collymore was 1 for 4 with a RBI triple.

Billings Mustangs 1, Great Falls Voyagers 6

Ricky Salinas started for the Mustangs last night and allowed an earned run on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts over 3 innings. There wasn’t much to write home about with regards to the offense. Reshard “Funroe” Munroe was 1 for 3 with a double and Mauriel “Mary Bats” Bautista was 1 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI. Jose Castillo struck out 3 in 1.1 innings of relief.
