Brandon Larson Honorary Star Of The Night
Nick Senzel - 2 for 4, 2 HR, 3 RBI
There were certainly some better stat lines tonight from some much younger players, but I really wanna keep this award going for the older guys unless something ridiculous happens. Lower league stats are always wonky and weird shit happens. Plus, when the #1 prospect in your system, and my main man, hits 2 dingers? You give him a meaningless trophy. Congrats, Nick. We eagerly await your call up.
Louisville Bats 3, Durham Bulls 13
Ooof. Jose “Sad Pig” Lopez gave up 8 earned runs over 2.1 innings on 11 hits, no walks, but did strikeout 4, I guess. The back end of the bullpen was good. Tapia, Mitchell, and Quackenbush all combined for three scoreless and one hit allowed. Tapia and Mitchell each struck out 1. Nick Senzel was all the offense. He hit 2 dingers and scored 3 RBI total. Good game. He’s now hitting .310/.378/.509 if you were wondering.
The Bats will play at 7:00 PM ET.
Pensacola had another game banged due to rain. They’ll play a double header on Friday with Seth Varner on the mound at 4:05 PM and Wyatt Strahan following.
Daytona Tortugas 2, Florida Fire Frogs 1 (F/10)
Daytona actually had to switch locations for their series with Florida due to their field needing so much maintenance due to rain. They did play though. Tejay “TJ” Antone was pretty dang good. He gave up an earned run over 7 innings on 5 hits, 3 walks, and with 4 strikeouts. Aaron Fossas “Your Teeth” struck out 2 in 2 scoreless, and Joel “Slyde” Kuhnel struck out 2 in a scoreless to pick up the save. Kuhnel has seemed to figure something out in A+ ball. He’s struck out 32 and walked only 4 in 27.2 innings with a 2.93 ERA. Brantley “Ding Dong” Bell went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
The Tortugas will play at 6:00 PM ET.
Dayton Dragons 2, South Bend Cubs 3
“General” Andrew “Jackson” Jordan scattered 3 earned runs over 7 innings pitched on 7 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 3. Connor Bennett got a quick appearance in Billings and was immediately sent to Dayton once they were back from break. Makes sense he struck out 62 in 39 innings last year in Billings while his control wasn’t great. He pitched 2 scoreless (while walking 2 and giving up 2 hits) and struck out 3. Malik “Lassie” Collymore got knocked back down to Dayton from Daytona, which isn’t great for him, but he went 2 for 3 with a homer and 2 RBI.
Hunter Greene will be on the mound at 7:00 PM ET.
Billings Mustangs 11, Great Falls Voyagers 4
Ricky “Spit Ball” Salinas took the start in a reliever game and went 2 innings while not giving up a run on a walk and 2 strikeouts. He was a 25th round pick out of Rice. Edward “You Booze, We Booze” Escoboza struck out 1 in a scoreless inning, and Connor Ryan struck out 3 in 1.2 scoreless. Drew “Horse” Mount (16th round pick out of Kansas State) went 3 for 5 with a 3-run dinger, 4 RBI total, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Pabel “Peppers” Manzanero went 2 for 5 with a 2-run wanger. 7th Round pick, Jay “Shoestring” Schuyler, went 1 for 2 with a RBI, run scored, and 3 walks! He’s also a catcher!
Mac Sceroler pitches at 7:05 PM MT.
Greeneville Reds 13, Bristol Pirates 12
The only bright spot so far on an awful Greeneville pitching staff has been Josiah Gray. Gray was the Reds 2nd Round Comp pick that was pitching for a tiny little Division II school in New York. He pitched 3 perfect innings with 5 strikeouts. The rest of the bullpen gave up 12 earned over 6 innings. Brian “Say Hey” Rey went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and 2 walks. He was a 13th round pick this year. 19 year old Juan Martinez walked 3 time and scored 3 times, Nate Scantlin went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI, and Jonathan Willems went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.
Baby Reds 6, 2nd Baby Cubs 18
This one got out of hand late. I checked the score in the 6th and it was 8 to 5. Zeck Weiss struck out 2 in 1.1 without giving up an earned run (1 unearned), “Starvin” Marvin Mateo struck out 2 in 1.2 scoreless, and Francis “Figueroa” Peguero struck out 1 in 2.1 scoreless. Dabby “Snacks” Santana hit a 2 run dinger, and Danielito “Tiny Daniel” Remy doubled and went 2 for 5.
