Beat them baby bears, would ya Reds?

Is it just me, or does that picture up there make Matt Harvey look like Jason Marquis?

Or is it that Matt Harvey’s stats as a member of the Cincinnati Reds simply remind me of Marquis’ lovely tenure with the club back in 2015?

You’ve likely parked the memories of ‘Jason Marquis: Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher’ somewhere in the dark recesses of your memory, but it was only three years ago when the club gave the struggling veteran a chance to eat innings on a rebuilding team and perhaps get his career back on track. If you’ve suppressed those memories, here’s a refresher: Marquis got 9 starts as a Red, threw 47.1 innings of 5.27 FIP ball, posting a mediocre 2.6 K/BB before getting booted from the rotation for a better option.

Matt Harvey will be making his 8th start as a Red on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs. To date, he’s thrown 35.1 innings as a Red, posted a 5.13 FIP in that time, while also the owner of a mediocre 2.6 K/BB in that time. That includes an ugly 6.75 ERA over his last 4 starts against the Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates - none of whom boast a Top 10 offense in MLB according to wRC+. Heck, three of those starts came on the road, too, but on Thursday he’ll be tasked with the Cubs’ offense - the 7th best by wRC+ in all of baseball - and will have to do so in GABP’s dingerrific confines.

That, of course, is if the weather allows for such a game to happen. Currently, the forecast is calling for intermittent storms from today through Saturday.

The Reds made a series of roster moves this afternoon, as well:

If things do go according to schedule, Harvey and the Reds will face off against Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks on Thursday, with first pitch currently set for 7:10 PM ET.

Go Reds. Beat the stupid Cubs.
