Farmers Only: Tony Santillan Is All You Need

But, the inaugural opening night for the Greeneville Reds does not go as planned.

Brandon Larson Honorary Star Of The Night

Tony Santillan - 7 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

I talked a lot about the hitters in the last segment of the Farmers Only. However, this is a guy that has more than held his own this year after struggling with control last year. While it was only 7 innings this outing still counts as a complete game, and I love seeing the lack of walks on the board. It’s exciting.

Louisville Bats 4, Durham Bulls 8

Robert “Big Bob’s Beepers” Stephenson was able to limit the damage but didn’t have a very good night. He allowed 3 earned runs over 5 innings on 5 hits but 3 walk with 4 strikeouts. Domingo “Fishy” Tapia pitched 2 clean frames, and Zach “Kneel” Neal pitched a scoreless 9th. DJ Peterson went 2 for 4 with a 2-run dinger and 2 runs scored total, and Steve “So” Selsky dingered as well. “Uncle” Phil Ervin went 3 for 4 with a stolen base.

Louisville plays at noon against Durham.

Pensacola plays Thursday at 6:05 PM CT.

Daytona Tortugas 7, Palm Beach Cardinals 2 (F/7)

Tony “Sizzlin” Santillan was hot fire last night. He gave up 2 earned runs over 7 innings to pick up the complete game. He allowed 7 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 7. Jose “Say It Again” Siri was 2 for 4 with a double, triple, a RBI, and 2 runs scored. Mitch Nay doubled as well and coaxed a walk with a run scored.

Daytona Tortugas 4, Palm Beach Cardinals 2 (F/7)

Tommy “Bird Jeans” Bergjans took the start and was very good. He didn’t allow an earned run (2 total) over 5 innings on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Ryan “LSD” Hendrix pitched a clean frame and so did Joel “Sofa King” Kuhnel. Taylor “TT” Trammell was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base, and Mitch “Hay” Nay walked twice and had a RBI.

Dayton returns to action on Thursday at 7:00 PM ET.

Billings will try and play on Wednesday at 6:00 PM MT, and they’ll play a double header. What I thought as just weird scheduling was actually just weird weather as it’s been hella rainy in the Great Plains. They had their double header on Monday scratched and now their scheduled game on Tuesday.

Greeneville Reds 2, Bristol Pirates 10

Opening night for the Greeneville Reds did not go as planned. Jacob “Not So Heavenly” Heatherly couldn’t find the plate. He gave up 4 earned runs in 1.2 innings. He walked 7, gave up a sole hit, and struck out 2. Francis “Scott” Jones took over and allowed an earned run in 2.2 innings but did strikeout 6, and Stephen “Helen” Keller pitched 2 scoreless. Nate “Scat Cat” Scantlin went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, Jon “Williams” Willems went 2 for 4, and Juan Martinez went 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Cash “Money” Case walked twice.

The Greeneville Reds will look to rebound tonight with Ricky Karcher on the mound at 7:00 PM ET.

Baby Reds 10, Baby Brewers 7

Zack “Winky” Weiss took the start in rehab and pitched a clean inning. Jeffry “Jeffy” Nino pitched 2 scoreless with 3 strikeouts, and Marvin “The Martian” Mateo pitched clean 9th to pick up the save. Stuart “Turnjob” Turner went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI, a walk, and a run scored. Danny “The Lantern” Lantigua lit the way when he went 2 for 4 with a triple, walk, 3 RBI, and a run scored. Edwin “Bon Bon” Yon went 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored. Carlos “Rein It In” Reina went 3 for 3 with a double, walk, run scored, and 2 RBI.
