Luis Castillo has allowed 13 ER over his previous three starts, a total of 15.1 IP in that span. That stretch has come immediately after it appeared that he’d turned the corner after his rough start to 2018, as he’d compiled a 2.83 ERA over his previous 28.2 IP, a 5 start span where he never once allowed more than 2 ER in a single game.
Saturday will already mark Castillo’s 15th start of the season for the Cincinnati Reds, and in this day and age that roughly marks a half-season for the young righty. It would be a massive development for him to pitch the remainder of this 2018 season in a way similar to his electric 2017, as that would go a long, long way in helping the rebuilding Reds sort out their starting rotation woes once and for all.
Castillo will toe the rubber opposite veteran Pittsburgh Pirates starter Ivan Nova. First pitch is set for 4:05 PM ET.
