Matt Harvey will get the start for Cincinnati, and in doing so he’ll look to reverse a few alarming trends that surely couldn’t have been obvious red flags when the Reds traded for him from the New York Mets. Since his 4 innings of shutout ball against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his Reds debut, Harvey owns just a 5.81 ERA, with 7 dingers allowed in just 26.1 IP. His last three starts have been even worse, as he’s yielded 14 ER in 16.1 IP - a tidy 7.16 ERA - and has seen his opponents hit .297/.356/.563 off him in that time. Eeesh.
Pittsburgh will send Chad Kuhl to the mound. Chad Kuhl will likely not face Alex Blandino, who is out of the lineup again for the *seven-millionth consecutive game.
First pitch is set for 7:05 PM ET.
*He’s started 5 times in the last 23 games, and got just 37 PA over the last calendar month. That sure is an interesting way to burn an entire big league season on a former 1st round draft pick. Whatever. At least there’s beer.
