Your Redlegs hopped on I-70 and went west to Kansas City for a set against the Royals. Mustang Sally will pitch in the first game this evening, still kinda working for his very job. His ERA is an unsavory 6.23, nearly double what it was about a month ago. The season is still kinda young, and he is still way younger still, but if he keeps doing what he has been doing he is likely to get a remedial class down in Louisville. All the same, this rough patch is probably really, really good for him. There’s an old Chinese proverb about learning more from one’s rough May than from one’s impressive April.
Ian Kennedy has had a kind of Forrest Gump kind of career. He was a first-round pick of the Yankees back in 2006 (that star-studded draft included Clayton Kershaw, Tim Lincecum, Evan Longoria, and Drew Stubbs), he was rated a top pitching prospect along with Phil Hughes and Homer Bailey, he was traded in 2009 in a deal featuring the likes of Curtis Granderson and Max Fucking Scherzer, he inexplicably went 21-4 and nearly won a Cy Young in 2011, and despite a long and well-documented career of unremarkable mediocrity (aside from that weird 2011), he was given $70 million by these Royals back in 2016. He is 33 years old and I am still completely convinced that he is left-handed.
