Brandon Larson Honorary Star Of The Weekend
Dilson Herrera - 4 for 8, 2B, 3 BB, 3 RBI, 1 R
Maybe, I could have picked someone else. However, considering what this guy has done and where he’s been since coming to the Reds in the Jay Bruce trade, I’ll take the sudden turn around. Herrera is still only 24 years old, and is three years removed where he showed enough promise to get some time playing at the big boy level with the Mets. All he’s done so far this year, after a slow start, is slash .303/.367/.442 between Daytona and Louisville. In fact, his numbers have been even better since moving up to Louisville. I know there isn’t much place for him, but as we’ve kept saying, there is quite a lot of depth to take over after an eventual Scooter Gennett trade.
Friday
Louisville Bats 3, Scranton Stranglers 4
Jose “Porky” Lopez was about as average as average can get. He allowed 3 earned runs over 5 innings on 6 hits, 3 earned runs, and 5 strikeouts. Tanner “Mount” Rainey pitched a scoreless inning. Dilson “Baby Pickle” Herrera was 1 for 3 with 2 walks, a double, and 3 RBI. Nick Senzel and Chadwick “Von” Tromp both walked twice.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos 6, Mississippi Braves 1
Seth “Vinny Vanny” Varner continues to put together a great season. He gave up only an earned run, on a solo dinger, in 6 innings. He allowed 5 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 2. Robinson “Brick” Leyer pitched 2 perfect frames, and Jesus “Lives” Reyes struck out 1 in a scoreless inning. Nick “Bong Rip” Longhi was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Shed “To bed” Long was 2 for 4 with a RBI, walk, and 2 runs scored, which is nice because he was in a little bit of a slump. CJ McElroy went 2 for 3 with a run scored an a walk, and Luis “Yankee Killer” Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with a RBI, and a walk.
Daytona Tortugas 6, Palm Beach Cardinals 7
Tejay “TJ” Antone didn’t have the best luck. He gave up 3 earned runs over 4.2 innings on 8 hits, 3 walks, but he did strikeout 6. Aaron “Jimmy” Fossas struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings. I don’t know if I’ve really ever seen anything like this. Ibandel “Princess” Isabel hit 2 more dingers in this game, his 13th and 14th. It’s also like his 10th in 2 weeks. They were a solo and a 3-run shot. He was 3 for 4 overall with 2 runs scored and the 4 RBI. Mitch “Yay” Nay went 1 for 3 with a RBI, walk, and 2 runs scored.
Dayton Dragons 4, Bowling Green Massacres 11
Tyler “Walter” Mondile gave up 5 earned runs over 4.1 innings. He allowed 7 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. He also gave up 3 homers which doesn’t help at all. The bullpen was also really bad. Stu Fairchild was 1 for 3 with a RBI triple and a walk, and Jeter “Re2pect” Downs was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Saturday
Louisville Bats 9, Scranton Stranglers 4
Brandon “Tim” Finnegan was also super average, and not what we want to see from him. He allowed 3 earned runs over 5 innings on 6 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Domingo “Ate Your Baby” Tapia pitched a scoreless inning, and Jimmy “Drink To” Herget struck out 2 in 2 scoreless innings. Gabby Guerrero was 4 for 6 with a solo dinger, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI. Nick “Senzinnati” Senzel was 4 for 6 with a double, 2 runs scored, a stolen base (his 7th) and a RBI. Phil Ervin chipped in with a 2 for 4 day with a double, RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk, and Blake Trahan was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI. The guy that continues to hit the shit out of the ball is Dilson Herrera. He went 3 for 5 with a RBI, walk, and a run scored. In all, the Bats worked out 20 hits and 4 walks on the day.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos 4, Mississippi Braves 12
Daniel “Didn’t Do” Wright got lit up. He gave up 6 earned runs over 4 innings. He allowed 5 hits, 4 walks, and struck out only 1. Alejandro Chacin “Amy” struck out 2 in 2.1 scoreless innings. Narcisco Crook hit a solo wanger, and Shed Long went 2 for 5.
Daytona Tortugas 1, Palm Beach Cardinals 5
Wennington “Ray” Romero didn’t have his control. He walked 5 batters over 6 innings which led to 4 earned runs. He also allowed 4 hits and struck out 1. The Tortugas only had 3 hits, but Taylor “My Hero” Trammell walked twice and stole a base.
Dayton Dragons 0, Bowling Green Massacres 1
Hunter Greene took the start and was pretty dang good once again. He allowed only 1 earned run over 5 innings on 4 hits, 2 walks, and he struck out 6. Cory “Not A SS” Thompson struck out 4 in 3 scoreless. The former shortstop really has been doing quite fine as a reliever. Jon Ghyzel struck out 1 in 1 scoreless. Not talking about the offense.
Sunday
The Bats had their game cancelled due to rain. They’ll pick things back up on Monday at 7:00 PM ET.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos 3, Mississippi Braves 1
Keury “Hella” Mella found his good stuff again. He struck out 8 in 7 innings while only giving up an earned run on 3 hits and 2 walks. Cool. Carlos “Never” Navas pitched a clean frame, and Jesus “Saves” Reyes picked up his first save of the year with a scoreless 9th. Chris “Maybe” Okey went 2 for 3 with a walk, 2 doubles, a run scored, and 1 RBI. He’s raised his average up to a robust .154 over the weekend. Narciso “I Am Not A” Crook went 3 for 4 with a run scored, and Taylor Sparks went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Vlad Gutierrez will be on the mound at 7:00 PM CT.
Daytona Tortugas 3, Palm Beach Cardinals 6
Ty “Lancing” Boyles was adequate. He allowed 3 earned runs (5 total) over 6 innings on 9 hits, no walks, and 4 strikeouts. Juan Martinez struck out 2 in a scoreless inning. TJ Friedl was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and a run scored.

Wendolyn Bautista took over and gave up only an earned run over the next 3.2 innings and struck out 4. Dauri Moreta struck out 2 in a scoreless inning. Adrian Rodriguez will be on the mound at 7:00 PM ET.
