Mets at Reds, Game 2: Preview and Lineups

The Reds will win a game again, at some point.

MLB: New York Mets at Cincinnati Reds Kareem Elgazzar-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds lost another baseball game on Monday, a 7-6 tussle with the New York Mets that actually, actually had some suspense in it. After trailing 5-0 early, the Reds put together a bit of a rally, clawing back in a way we’ve rarely seen from them in most of the rest of their - /checks notes - 27 losses through the first 35 games of the season.

Maybe that’s the start of something. Maybe things are so bad that I’m looking to a 7-6 loss at home in GABP to a team that had lost 6 games in a row for a sign of positivity. Maybe I’m just trying to figure out this CMS is insisting that I’ve spelled ‘positivity’ incorrectly.

Who knows.

Luis Castillo will take the mound for the Reds tonight as they attempt to salvage this series, this homestand, anything. Veteran lefty Jason Vargas and his early 16.20 ERA will go for the Mets, so hopefully the young bats of the futu...

...nevermind. Neither Jesse Winker nor Alex Blandino are in the starting lineup tonight. Scooter Gennett and Adam Duvall, though, sure as heck are.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM ET. Schedule your own first beer accordingly.

Other Notes

  • The tricksy social media team of the Mets used a video to unveil their lineup in that there tweet. If you’re not inclined to click on it to find out who they’re starting, I’ll clue you in that Todd Frazier is getting the day off. Daryl Strawberry is also in LF, while Gregg Jefferies is spelling Frazier at 3B. Probably.
  • Nick Senzel, who has been out of the Louisville lineup with dizziness since exiting early on May 3rd, remains out of the Bats lineup again today. Dang.
  • The Baltimore Orioles, who sit a half-game behind the Reds in the race for the absolute crappiest record in all of baseball first pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, play host to the Kansas City Royals tonight. I hope Manny Machado hits eleventy dingers.
