Farmers Only: Wennington Romero Dominates

Taylor Trammell also goes deep.

Brandon Larson Honorary Star Of The Night

Wennington Romero - 7 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K

Romero has quietly been on the best pitchers in the Reds minor league system this year, and he was for the beginning of 2017 as well. I’m going to chalk up his late year struggles last year to fatigue. What he has shown in this organization is being a guy that can limit the walks while getting timely strikeouts. I haven’t read much about him having plus stuff, but being a pitcher that is more about command and control rather than just blowing you away. That always plays up well to me especially when you can couple it with multiple well placed pitches of different types.

Louisville Bats 3, Indianapolis Indians 1

Zach “Morris” Neal was solid in his start. He pitched 5 scoreless innings and allowed 5 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 3. Tanner “Mount” Rainey, Domingo “Ate Your Baby” Tapia, and Kevin “Duck Hunt” Quackenbush all struck out 1 in a scoreless inning pitched. Steve “SO” Selsky went 1 for 2 with a RBI, run scored, and 2 walks. DJ Peterson was 2 for 4.

Jose Lopez is on the mound at 6:30 PM ET.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 6, Birmingham Barons 9

Daniel “Do” Wright had one of his better starts. He allowed 3 earned runs over 5 innings pitched on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. It’s not great, but that’s a better line than he’s been putting up there this season. Robinson Leyer “I Hardly Knew Her” pitched 2 scoreless with 2 strikeouts. Taylor “Swift” Sparks was 3 for 5 with a RBI and a run scored, and Chadwick “NO COLLUSION” Tromp was 3 for 4 with a walk. The Wahoos scattered 15 hits overall with 4 walks. Luis Gonzalez, Brian “Beef” O’Grady, and CJ McElroy all pitched in with multi-hit games.

Keury Mella pitches at 7:05 PM CT.

Daytona Tortugas 4, Tampa Tarpons 1

Wennington Romero continues be pretty freaking awesome. He pitched 7 innings while giving up only a run (not earned) on 5 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Ryan “Jimi” Hendrix struck out 2 in a scoreless inning. Taylor “The Future” Trammel (1 for 3) hit a 2-run dinger and walked, and Bruce Yari was 2 for 4 with a 2-run dinger of his own. TJ Friedl also helped the cause by going 2 for 4 with a walk and stolen base.

TBD is on the mound at 7:05 PM ET.

Dayton Dragons 3, Cedar Rapids Kernels 2

It only makes sense that a team from Cedar Rapids would have a nickname about corn. Their logo is also a hilarious mixture between a corncob and a baseball bat that’s mean muggin’ it. Wendolyn Bautista took the start and was solid. He allowed 2 earned runs over 5.2 innings on 9 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. Ryan “Busta” Nutof pitched 1.1 scoreless. “Finding” Dauri Moreta struck out 1 in a scoreless inning, and John Gyzel pitched up his 6th save of the year. Mark “Colonoscopy” Kolozsvary went 2 for 2 with 2 walks and a run scored, Jose “Cherry” Garcia went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, and a run scored, and Morgan “Wonder Bread” Lofstrom went 2 for 4.

Hunter Greene looks to rebound at 7:00 pm ET.
