So, maybe the Cincinnati Reds aren’t going to go undefeated ad infinitum. Last night’s loss to the San Francisco Giants cut the win streak down after six games, but with Tyler Mahle on the hill tonight I’m irrationally optimistic that they’ll get back on the smiling side of the scoreboard again - even without Joey Votto.
Votto exited last night’s game early with a sore lower back, and he’ll get tonight’s game off to see if another earthquake can shake loose the muscles that are ailing him.
Ty Blach will start for the Giants, and the shuffling of the lineup while Votto is out combined with Jim Riggleman’s insistence that Alex Blandino won’t start with a lefty on the mound means that the lefty Blach will see each of Jesse Winker, Scott Schebler, and Scooter Gennett in the lineup against him.
First pitch is set for 10:15 PM ET.
