Reds at Cardinals, Game 2: Preview and Lineups

Game one of the Jim Riggleman era in Cincinnati went just about how the final 18 games of the Bryan Price era went: poor starting pitching, solid bullpen work, and a dead offense. Hopefully game 2 will go a little differently and the Reds can go on one of those classic, 2018 1-game winning streaks.

Homer Bailey (0-3, 3.42 ERA) makes his 5th start of the season in a year that has been pretty successful for the veteran righty. He faced this same Cardinals team in his last start back on April 15, where he gave up 3 runs on 4 hits over 7 solid innings in what would be a losing effort for the Redlegs. He will have the luxury of having Scott Schebler back in the lineup and patrolling center field. This will be Schebler’s first appearance back from the disabled list after he was hit by a pitch in the elbow against the Nationals all the way back on April 1.

Opposing the Reds today will be Carlos Martinez (2-0, 1.75 ERA). Martinez has had a great start to the 2018 season, and has given up only 1 run in his last 3 starts. He last faced off against this offensive juggernaut on April 15, when he gave up only 2 hits in 7 shutout innings while fanning 11 batters.

First pitch is set for 2:15 PM EDT.

Other Notes

  • In case you missed it yesterday, LHP Cody Reed was the player optioned to AAA-Louisville to make room for Schebler on the roster.
  • It’s been, like, 12 hours since the Reds last played so there really isn’t anything to add here.
  • Please do something positive today, Reds.
