The Reds and the Dodgers are discussing some deals that would see the Reds taking on some high-salary players to help the Dodgers free up space for bigger things, according to yaboy Ken Rosenthal.
#Dodgers, #Reds have talked multiple times, sources tell The Athletic. Different packages being discussed; Puig in play as well as other LAD outfielders, pitchers. Dodgers want to clear money for other pursuits. Puig projected $11.3M in arb, per @mlbtraderumors, Alex Wood $9M.

(I’m writing this on my phone, so please forgive the jank formatting.)
This would be a neat move for the Reds, who have rarely (if ever) played the role of a team willing to take on big salaries. Rosy specifically mentions Alex Wood and Yasiel Puig, who combine to make about $20 million for next season before they both hit free agency.
The Dodgers are likely making a big play for Bryce Harper, I think. He would cost a lot of money, like, a lot lot. So every cent the Dodgers can throw at him would make a difference. So maybe they are motivated sellers here.
Obviously, both of these guys would fill real needs for the Reds. And neither one is Soupy Sales here, as they would both be significant upgrades for the Reds at their respective positions. The rub is just what the Reds would have to pay in prospects for the pleasure, so we’ll see. At the very least, it’s cool to see the Reds willing to discuss interesting and unconventional moves like this.
