The Cincinnati Reds confirmed some terrible news on Saturday evening. Jairo Capellan, a 19 year old prospect from the Dominican Republic who the club signed in the summer of 2017, died in a car accident in his home country earlier today. Injured in the same accident were Reds prospects Raul Hernandez and Emilio Garcia - both also just 19 years old - and they both remain hospitalized, per the team announcement.

Each of the three participated as part of the Reds Dominican Summer League team during the 2018 season.
This is just awful, awful news, and the latest in a series of car accidents that have claimed the lives of baseball players while in the DR.
Our hearts are with the entire Reds family tonight, and we’ll relay any updates when we can.
