Louisville 5, Durham 2
Tyler Mahle was supposed to start tonight, but that was pushed back a day for Amir “Cat” Garrett. Garrett only pitched 2 innings and didn’t give up any runs. He didn’t strikeout anyone or walk anyone either. I really don’t know what the hell is going on. I’m going to assume with the rain out yesterday that Garrett did some bullpen work and wanted to get him into a game for a little bit today. Ariel “Sea Legs” Hernandez pitched a scoreless frame, and Jimmy “Eat World” Herget did the same with a strikeout. Adam Brett “That’s Not A Nickname” Walker is a new name this year and went 2 for 5 with a solo homer. Alex “The Great” Blandino also did the same, and Scott Van “Dyke” Slyke went 1 for 3 with a solo homer of his own and a walk. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Darnell “Barn Owl” Sweeney’s 2 for 5 night with a double, triple, and a RBI.
Louisville ain’t saying so, but Tyler Mahle is supposed to start tonight at 7:05 PM ET.
In Pensacola it rained. Jose Lopez will start Game 1 of a double header at 4:00 PM CT. TBD on the mound thereafter.
Daytona 11, Dunedin 5
Vladimir Gutierrez started the season so well, but hasn’t been great near the end. He surrendered 5 earned runs in 5.1 innings on 8 hits, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts. Jake “His Name Is Robert” Paulson pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts, and Ryan “Guitar Solo” Hendrix pitched a clean frame to finish it. However, the big story was the offense. Eight different Tortugas reached base at least twice, but there are two big boppers to highlight. First, Daniel “Cavity” Sweet went 1 for 3 with a solo dinger, walk, 2 RBI, and his 22nd stolen base of the year. However, James Vasquez has to be the MVP of the game. He went 2 for 4 with a double, 2-run dinger, and a sac fly.
TBD is on the mound at 7:05 PM ET.
Dayton 3, Lansing 2
Matt “The Other” Blandino pitched pretty well even though he wasn’t missing bats. He gave up only an earned run (2 total) over 6 innings on 7 hits, 0 walks, and no strikeouts. Moises “Super” Nova struck out 5 in 2.2 shutout innings. Taylor “He’s Only 19, Guys” Trammell hit a solo homer and walked, and Jose Siri went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Randy “Ace” Ventura, who was acquired three days ago from the Braves for $1.25 million in international bonus money, went 2 for 5 with a run scored. I think that’s where Adam Brett Walker came from whom was previously mentioned up thread. Ventura, is also only 19 and seems to be a speedy player with not much power but can handle the bat and will take a walk.
Dayton will play tonight at 7:00 PM ET with Alex Webb on the mound.
Billings 2, Idaho Falls 6
Well, this is boring because Billings lost and Hunter Greene didn’t play. Oh, wait, he makes his professional debut tonight at DH! That’s cool. Hunter also celebrated his 18th birthday on Sunday, which is also super cool and makes me feel really old. Packy “Sacky” Naughton pitched decently. He only gave up 2 earned runs over 5 innings on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. The bullpen was bad. Stuart “Pretty Kid” Fairchild was 1 for 3 with a RBI and 2 walks, and Leandro Santana was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Luis Alecis will pitch at 7:05 PM, but HUNTER GREENE IS GONNA PLAY BASEBALL, Y’ALL! WOOOOOOOOO!
Baby Reds 5, Baby D-Backs 8 (I assume)
This game was in the top of the ninth as I was writing this. I didn’t care quite enough to wait another inning because I was sleepy. If it changes, it changes. Check the box score. Isaac “McNasty” Anesty pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and so did John “Geiser” Ghyzel who also struck out 1. Cash “Money Box” Case hit a 2-run homer, and Mariel Bautista was 2 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored.
