Farmers Only: Siri’s Streak Reaches 37 Games

Speaking of the number 37, Senzel smacked his 37th double of the season.

Toledo 3, Louisville 2

Tyler Mahle pitched another gem in this loss. He pitched eight shutout innings before he started the ninth with back-to-back walks (his only walks of the night) and then was replaced by Austin Brice. Mahle’s final line: 8+ IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K. Darnell Sweeney had three hits and scored a run.

Amir Garrett starts for the Bats tonight against Toledo at 7:05 PM ET.

Birmingham 3, Pensacola 2

Shed “Star of C. Trent’s ‘Great American Dream’ Podcast” Long doubled, walked and knocked in a run. Nick “2016 No. 2” Senzel notched his MiLB second-best 37th double of the season. Starter Deck McGuire gave up three runs on two walks in seven full and struck out six.

The Blue Wahoos play at Birmingham tonight at 8:05 PM ET.

Tampa 5, Daytona 3

Starter Wendolyn Bautista pitched six full, gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits, walked two and struck out six. James Vasquez, Brantley “Alexander Graham” Bell, and Garrett Boulware each had two hits Tuesday night. Boulware’s two hits were doubles; he also knocked in and scored a run.

The Tortugas are off tonight and play next at Lakeland on Thursday night.

Fort Wayne 6, Dayton 1

Jose “iPhone voice” Siri extended his new Midwest League record hitting streak to 37 games when he hit a 1st-inning double. Malik Collymore “Cowbell” had three hits and one RBI. Ft. Wayne was up 3-1 going into the 8th and then scored thrice to put the game even further out of reach. Starter Matt Blandino went 5 1/3 innings, gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out four. Reliever Joel Kuhnel pitched in the eighth inning and gave up the aforementioned three runs.

The Dragons host Great Lakes tonight at 7:00 PM ET.

Other Stuff

  • “Uncle” Jesse Winker got called up to the bigs yesterday, started in right field, batted second in the lineup and hit his first big league dinger.
  • The Billings Mustangs were off Tuesday night for the PIO v. MWL All Star Game and will be back in action when it hosts Ogden on Thursday night.
  • The AZL Reds were off on Tuesday and play at the AZL White Sox tonight at 9:00 PM ET.
