Friday, August 11

Louisville Bats 1, Gwinnett Braves 3

This was the start of a rough weekend for the Bats. “General” Jackson Stephens got the start and pitched pretty well. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. The offense didn’t hold up their end of the bargain. Hernan “The Barbarian” Iribarren was 3 for 4 and Darnell Sweeney “Todd” was 2 for 4. That’s pretty much it.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 1, Mobile BayBears 3

Pensacola gave up 3 in the top of the 9th to fall to Mobile on Friday. Deck “Boughs of Holly” McGuire started and was great, throwing 7 shutout innings while giving up 3 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 7. Nick “No. 2” Senzel had a ho-hum 1 for 3, 1 double, 1 walk evening. Gabriel “Young Vlad” Guerrero was 2 for 5 and Chad Tromp was 2 for 3.

Daytona Tortugas 12, Palm Beach Cardinals 8

Seth Varner started for Daytona and wasn’t great. He gave up 5 runs on 9 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts over 4 innings of work. Luis “Game 7” Gonzalez had himself a night, going 4 for 5 with a double, a run scored, and 4 RBI. James “No Nickname” Vazquez also had 4 RBI, going 1 for 3 with a double. Gabriel “Ellipse” Ovalle was 3 for 4 and scored twice, Alfredo “Pasta Rod” Rodriguez was 2 for 5 and also scored twice, and Brantley “4th Meal” Bell was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.

Dayton Dragons 2, South Bend Cubs 5

Scott “Randy” Moss started for Dayton and went 5.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Jose “Ask” Siri was 2 for 4 with a run scored and Taylor “Yellow Jacket” Trammell was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and 1 RBI. Jesse Adams struck out 2 in a scoreless inning of relief.

Billings Mustangs 1, Ogden Raptors 2

Mac Sceroler started for Billings and was solid, going 5 innings and giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Miles “Flash” Gordon was 1 for 4 with a solo dinger. Jon Ghyzel struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of relief.

The Baby Reds were off on Friday.

Saturday, August 12

Louisville Bats 3, Gwinnett Braves 7

Recently acquired Luke “The Manager” Farrell got the start and wasn’t good. He lasted only 2.2 innings and gave up 6 earned runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Phil “Phlervin” Ervin had a solid night at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI and Darnell Sweeney was 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, and 2 runs scored. Barrett “A little place called” Astin, Nick Routt “44”, and Jimmy “I drink to remember, he drinks to” Herget each struck out 1 in a scoreless inning of relief.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 7, Mobile BayBears 8

Jesus Reyes didn’t rise to the occasion in this one, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 5 innings of work. Gabriel Guerrero was 1 for 4 with a 3-run dinger. Brian “Beef” O’Grady and Aristides “Heiress Titties” Aquino were each 1 for 4 with a solo donk. Nick “Senzational” Senzel was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Tanner “Make it” Rainey struck out all 3 batters he faced.

Daytona Tortugas 1, Palm Beach Cardinals 4

Ty “Draining” Boyles started and was solid, giving up only 1 run on 4 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts over 6 innings. The offense didn’t hold up their end of the bargain. Brantley Bell was 3 for 4 and Garrett “Tupper” Boulware was 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Dayton Dragons 4, South Bend Cubs 12

Tony Santillan was not Santigold on Saturday. He gave up 8 runs on 10 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 3.1 innings of work. Jose Siri was 1 for 4 with a triple and 1 RBI, Taylor “Bubba” Sparks was 1 for 4 with a double, a walk, and 1 RBI, and BRUUUUUUCE Yari was 1 for 3 with a double and 1 RBI.

Billings Mustangs 4, Ogden Raptors 12

Tyler Mondile started for the Mustangs and was bad. He lasted only 2.1 innings and gave up 6 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 1 strikeout. The rest of the bullpen was also bad, as everyone gave up at least 2 runs except for Connor Bennett, who threw 1.1 scoreless innings. Andy “Sluggo” Sugilio was 2 for 3 with a double and scored a run, Alejo Lopez was 2 for 4 with a triple and 1 RBI, and Morgan “Nordstrom” Lofstrom was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

AZL Reds 0, AZL Giants 1

Jared “Song of” Solomon started for the Baby Reds and pitched well, throwing 5.1 innings and giving up 1 run on 4 hits with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Edward Escoboza followed that up by striking out 6 in 2.2 scoreless innings. Unfortunately, the offense. They scattered around 5 hits and didn’t have an extra-base hit, so there was really nothing of note to write about on that front.

Sunday, August 13

Louisville Bats 7, Gwinnett Braves 8

The Bats completed the weekend by getting swept by the Barves in extras, 8-7. This game seemed crazy, as Louisville took a 4-run lead in the top of the 8th on a grand slam by Zach “Soft J” Vinej, only to see that lead erased in the bottom of the 9th off a grand slam by the Barves. Amir “Ball is life” Garrett started for the Bats and it was more of the same, as he gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Brandon Dixon “Dixoff” was 2 for 4 with a walk, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Chad “Walla Walla” Wallach was 2 for 5 with a solo dinger and a double and Phil Ervin was 1 for 4 with a walk and 2 runs scored.

Up Next: Louisville is off tonight.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos 11, Mobile BayBears 2

Pensacola hit dingers galore on Sunday to beat Mobile 11-2. Austin “Rick” Ross pitched 3 innings, giving up only 1 run on 5 hits with no walks and 1 strikeout. Nick “Mother Fucking” Senzel continues to hammer Double-A pitching, going 3 for 5 with 2 dongers and 3 RBI. That dude has my sugars all the way up. Aristides Aquino was 2 for 3 and also had 2 donks and 3 RBI while Blake Trahan was a mere 1 for 4 with a solo tank and 2 runs scored. Andrew “McKivlehan” McKirahan struck out 1 in 2 scoreless innings while Alex “Danger” Powers struck out 2 in 2 scoreless innings.
